On this trip, we went to the Pit Village.
It was a very interesting little village.
As it was almost lunchtime, we went to the fish and chip shop. But they were no ordinary fish and chips, they were cooked in coal fire ovens!
They were very yummy!
After our very large portions, we went off to the mining pits. This is why it is called the Pit Village, it was originally where the miners who worked down the coal shafts, lived.
It was very interesting seeing how it all worked and functioned.
And also the conditions they worked in...
In the village was also a stable for the small ponies which were used to pull the carts of coal out with.
We saw all the gas lamps the miners used, past and present!
Back in the village, were of course the houses. They represented a typical house for the working man.
We explored the village some more, which included the church...
and even a bus!
Leaving the village, we headed towards the town for a mug of coffee. Golly, it was needed!
When we last in the town, we never had the chance to investigate the railway line they had.
It was good to finally see it.
There was a goods train.
and even a prisoner train!
I wasn't locked away for long, how else would I come back for more adventures?!
