A brisk walk round Staveley

New Years Day; a new day of a new year. Starting with a fresh mind (maybe slightly fuzzy from the night before...) new year resolutions are being made up and down the country, some probably haven't even lasted!

I haven't made a new years resolution. I never fully know what to do. My best and most favoured option is to remain as I am because that is how I am most happy.

So, to start the new year off, I had a lazy morning in bed and an active afternoon at the Yorkshire Wildlife Trusts Staveley Reserve. Just like St Aidan's, I was last here in high summer and WOW has it changed!

No Orchids standing proudly towards the sun and definitely no ocean of Oxeye Daises.

The weather was kind to us. Well, besides the wind having a harsh bite and a definite chill to the air.
The wildlife was out, unbeknown of the festivities which took place the night and early morning before the dawn.

Overlooking the East Lagoon, I scanned the water for the passing chance of glimpsing one of the resident otters.

Unfortunately, I didn't see one.
To the side of the same hide, is a dedicated bird feeding station. An abundance of birds greeted us there. Including spectacular Yellow hammer and the skittish Water rail. Each beautiful in their own unique way.
